Need help on what type of smoker to buy $400 range, looking at the OLK Joes
(wood), but now I have been looking at the Smokin-Tex (electric). Have the
bullet shaped Brinkmans, but have out growned it. Any suggestions.

I know I'm not selling anything here, but promise to really soon, MAV
Tickets.

I've had one of the Oky Joe's for about 10 years. Those things are BUILT
to last. Only thing I wish I'd have done then was to get a bigger
one...........

I prefer the smoke I get from my wood smoker. Just be sure what ever smoker
you get, the steel is thick. It really makes a huge difference on how things
cook in it. Your temperature is the most important thing about smoking and
the more you can keep it consistant, the better it cooks, thus the thicker
smokers hold temp much better.
I am not so strong on the directly over the fire type smokers, I prefer the
wood on the side.
Types of wood make a difference too! I use pecan on all pork products and
Mequite of hickory on beef, that has been my findings that work for me and
when I smoke hams, I have to usually make 4 extra since everyone begs for
them or won't leave till it's all gone.

Also, go to a cook off and try the different stuff from the different
smokers and see what you like the best.
